What are Backlinks?

Backlinks are links from a page on one website to another website. If someone puts your website link on their website, you have a backlink from them. If you have a link from another website on your site they have a back link from you. So for example, if somebody posts your business website link on their Facebook profile or page, that would be considered a backlink.

Backlinks are important for SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, because it signals to search engines that another resource finds your content valuable enough to link it with the content on their own site. So basically, backlinks to your website indicate to search engines that others vouch for your content and are confident in your site. As websites increase the number of backlinks they have, search engines infer that the website has valuable content, so it ranks higher in searches.

For good SEO you ideally want 60 to 100 backlinks in order to rank higher in searches. Ways to increase the number of backlinks you have include building internal links, including valuable content and promoting that content, including guest articles, as well as other tactics. But it’s better to have higher quality backlinks that are natural, reputable, and relevant, and avoid low quality backlinks that appear spammy.
